State government employees are hard working, collaborative, and innovative.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

The State of Missouri offers a generous benefit package for permanent employees. Most employee benefits will be consistent among all agencies, whether they are merit or non-merit agencies. Variations may exist in the area of retirement, insurance, credit unions, and health care. The following is a general description of employment benefits offered by the State of Missouri.

INSURANCE

Health Insurance - coverage begins first month following employment.

Basic Life Insurance - term life insurance coverage.

Optional Life Insurance - available with maximum coverage of three times annual salary with premium paid by employee.

COBRA - post retirement continuation of insurance benefits for those qualifying.

PAID LEAVE

Vacation Leave - three weeks annually accrued at a rate of one and quarter days a month with a 30-day accrual limit. Additional time accrues after 10- and 15-years of service.

Sick Leave – employees accrue five hours of sick leave each pay period for each semi-month of service in which they are in pay status for 80 or more hours. Sick leave is also prorated for part-time employees in eligible positions. Sick leave accumulates without limit and can be converted to retirement credit upon retirement.

Holidays - twelve paid holidays each year with additional days designated by the Governor.

Worker's Compensation - protection paid by the state against work-related accidents or illnesses provided immediately upon employment and as long as employed.

Funeral Leave - leave with pay may be granted upon death of a member of employee's immediate family.

Administrative Leave - leave with pay may be granted for training or professional conference attendance when representing the agency.

Subpeona Duty - when subpeonaed, leave with pay to act as a juror to appear in court on agency business.

Military Leave - up to 15 calendar days each federal fiscal year with pay, in addition, to vacation leave, to attend reserve summer camp or the other military training when orders are issued.

SAVINGS AND OTHER BENEFITS

Cafeteria Plan - a payroll deduction savings plan which permits employee to set aside a portion of their salary on a tax-free basis to pay for state medical and group term life insurance premiums and to be reimbursed for certain medical, child, and dependent care expenses.

Payroll Deductions - direct payment through payroll deductions is available for a variety of insurance and investment programs and for certain charitable causes.

Credit Union - checking, savings, and lending services through payroll deduction. Services also include traveler's checks, credit cards, and automatic teller machines.

Legal Expense Fund - full malpractice and other liability coverage provided for claims or judgments against employees arising out of and performed in connection with official duties on behalf of the state.

Savings Bonds - available through payroll deduction plan.

Deferred Compensation - a payroll deduction plan offering to shelter your income from taxes with investment options ranging from life insurance and retirement plans. Moneys are taxable when withdrawn and the State contributes $25 monthly.

RETIREMENT

Retirement - vesting occurs after five years. Employees may apply for normal retirement when their combined age and years of services equal 80.

Social Security - paid through employee-employer contributions.
