Frequently Asked Questions...

FAQ's for entry-level job postings:

What if I'm looking for an entry-level position?
Those positions will be titled as Computer Information Technologist Trainee (CIT Trainee) or Computer Information Technologist I (CIT I).

How do I apply for the entry-level positions?
The State of Missouri Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) only accepts resumes for CIT Trainee and CIT I positions. In order to be considered for a position you must indicate the job title, job posting number and how you learned about the position (job fair, newspaper ad, etc.) on your cover letter or resume.

Where do I send my resume for a CIT Trainee or CIT I job posting?
There are two (2) ways to apply: Regular Mail: You may mail your resume and cover letter to the contact name and address listed in the job posting. E-Mail: you may email your resume and cover letter to the contact name and e-mail address listed in the job posting. Remember to include all required information listed in the above answer. Please do not submit an additional copy of your resume for the same position if you have already sent it via e-mail.

What if there is more than one CIT Trainee or CIT I job posting that I'm interested in applying?
You will need to submit a separate resume and over letter for each position for which you are interested. If applicable, please provide a school transcript.

What happens after I submit my application for a CIT Trainee or CIT I job posting?
We have many interested and qualified individuals applying for CIT Trainee and CIT I positions. We interview only a subset of those who apply for any particular position. You will be contacted if you have been chosen for an interview and those interviewed will be notified of the final decision. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled with a qualified candidate. You may apply for as many CIT Trainee and CIT I positions as you like.

FAQ's for job postings requiring IT experience:

How do I apply if I already have IT experience?
For any positions above a Computer Information Technologist I (CIT I), you need to apply to the state's merit system.

What do I need to do for the merit system application process?
Many, but not all of the IT classifications in Missouri State Government have an online application process to the merit system. Information about how to apply as well as the online application is available at http://www.ease.mo.gov/.

Can I also send my resume to the contact name and address on the job posting?
Yes, but you still must apply to the merit system and be accepted and placed on the register for your IT specialty and experience level. If you send a resume via regular mail or e-mail to the contact person listed in the job posting, be sure to indicate the job title, job posting number and how you learned about the position (job fair, newspaper ad, etc.) on your cover letter or resume.

How does the department with the job posting know I'm interested in their IT position?
The department will ask for a register for the appropriate classification from the Office of Administration Division of Personnel. Availability letters will be sent out to those individuals on the merit system register for the specific classification posted. You will respond to the letter if you are interested in interviewing.

What happens after I send in my interest letter and indicate I'd like to interview?
Those who receive an interview will be selected from the individuals who respond they are interested in interviewing for the position.

How do I know if I have an interview?
You will be contacted by the department via phone, letter or email and a specific date and time will be scheduled for the interview. Those interviewed will be notified if the position is filled by another applicant.
